Monte Carlo Country Club

In April 1892, Prince Charles III adopted the project for the construction of earthen tennis courts proposed by Count Bertor. Arriving in the principality in 1863, accompanied by Francois Blanc, the managing director of the Society of Sea Baths, he was able to get a loan for the gambling establishment “Lawn Tennis” and playing croquet. Construction work on laying the foundation began in the month of May behind the building of the Hotel de Paris and lasted a whole year.

In 1905, the Sea Bath Society decided to build an additional building for the Hotel de Paris, and thus the tennis courts were forced to “move”. Continue reading

Court of Honor

The Honorary Courtyard is considered the former central part of the 13th century fortress. He took on his true architectural appearance during the reign of Honor II.

His successor, Prince Louis, planned to “cut through” the door in the frontal facade of the building, overlooking the Square and the old city. Then, during the restoration work carried out by Prince Rainier III, the Honorary Courtyard was paved with three million white and colored stones, forming giant geometric shapes. Continue reading

The memory of a trip to Monaco (part 2)

Extraordinary beauty – like this, in ordinary words I express my admiration and joy to the places that have opened up for me.
I also remember the photo session near the monument to the black monk, the symbol of Monaco. I no longer remember this story and do not want to turn to Google. But she remained in her memory as something surprising and interesting. We start wandering around souvenir shops, already almost imagining what we want to bring from here, and what you will not find in any store – a piece of beautiful life. Of course, we carry the most appropriate souvenir in our heads – our memories. But still I want to feel something upon arrival home. Need something to take their empty hands. Continue reading

The memory of a trip to Monaco (part 1)

In travel plans, a visit to the state of Monaco was not made in advance. But, since these places were nearby, we decided to visit as many attractions in the district as possible. Basking in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, on the shore of one of the French towns, we were visited by the thought of a trip and a visit to a neighboring small, but so famous state. From this moment our Slavic heads suffered towards new adventures.

Before crossing the border, which led to many tunnels laid in the rocks, it was already clear that we were heading to a fairly hilly area. After the border, surprise about how you can travel around these parts without a car has increased. Basically, the road passed through many tunnels interconnected by small open sections of a regular road. Naturally no hiking trails. Continue reading

Sardinian protectorate

An agreement between Monaco and Sardinian King Victor Emmanuel I was signed at Stupinigi on November 8, 1817. It was much less favorable for the principality than the treaty with France that was in force before the French Revolution. The finances of the principality were in miserable condition, the country’s resources were reduced, and the communes, parishes and hospitals owed large sums of money.

Coat of arms of the Sardinian king Victor Emanuel I. After the death of Honore IV, power passed to his son Honore V (1819–1841), to whom Napoleon in 1810 appropriated the title of baron, and the Restoration regime became the peer of France. The new prince took measures to overcome the crisis. However, his tough policy met with dissatisfaction of the population and protests, especially in 1833 in Menton. After the death of Honore V, power passed to his brother, Florestan I (1841–1856), a great admirer of literature and theater, completely unprepared for government. Continue reading
